Chains of Tobatobu

Sun ,02/04/2006

Every person in a linkshell is an element in a chain. That chain is only strong as it’s weakest link.

Yesterday in Dynamis we failed to defeat the Dynamis Lord. Not the easiest task to say the least.

Today, our linkshell had several troubles in sky.
We lost valuable members because they had things to do. Blame went to them when things went wrong.
We wiped while fighting Motherglobe. We managed to recover and win.
We failed to reconize who was doing what while traveling to Byakko. Everyone seemed to have their own agenda.
When we finally fought Byakko, we didn’t mesh correctly. Several things went wrong in battle and we failed.

Do I blame a single indiviual for any of these problems? No.

While every chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, there is more to it than that. When setup correctly, each link is required to minimal tasks. It is at this moment, that everyone has only a single task, that everyone can do so much more.

I believe these people were were trying to do more, yet they had neglected to maintain their basic skills.

I think everyone needs to look at this failure. Realize what went wrong. Did they do everything that they were supposed to do? Was there something that they could have done differently in order to recieve a better result while maintaining that simple goal.

Some people do not take failure as lightly as others. Some take it personally. Others blame each other. Sometimes you just need to realize that you are having an off day.

A new friend.

Tobatobu was travelling in Upper Jeuno. The crowds were busy. The bazaars were active. The AH was overcrowded. This is usually the case.

On Toba’s way, a Mithra took notice of me. Toba didn’t know what to do. He looked around trying to decide if the Mithra was gesturing to him or just someone in Toba’s general direction. Tobatobu walked over to the Mithra. She introduced herself as Luto Merwilah, from a land far away.

Luto mentioned to Tobatobu that she had a list of people that she was investigating, but needed an experienced adventurer to assist her. His fame has preceeded him. He agreed to help.

Toba was given the description of one of the people mentioned on the list. After speaking with an old man in the gardens and the gaurds, he learned that has looking for a tall Galka with dark hair. The galka had been seen around Jeuno within the few days.

After returning to Luto, she thanked him for doing assiting her with he research.

The next day, Toba was running his daily errands in Upper Jueno. A distressed mother was talking with Luto. Apparently her daughter had wondered off. Toba immediatly agreed to help find the missing girl.

Toba preceeded to ask the nearby guard if he had seen the girl the women had described. To his surprised, he had! What more, he was seen talking with the Galka that Toba was looking for just the day before. The guard mentioned that the Galka may have headed to the necropolis.

Toba grew cold. He disliked the necropolis. The undead spirits from the war inhabited the area and it was not a safe place to travel. It was urgent that he find the Galka to see if he knew the where abouts of the little girl.

Toba ran to the nearby Chocobo stable and set out. He took him only a few hours to get to the Necropolis. After searching for several hours his search had come up empty. He still had a few more places to search. The Eldieme Necropolis is expansive and many rooms circle around. Toba decided to check in a few more places.

It was then that Toba heard some yelling. Galka Warcrys. Tobatobu ran in the direction of the echos to come across the Galka brushing himself off, a pile of bones below him. Tobatobu approached the galka. Just as he was about to introduce himself, he heard a scream. There was a little girl and an undead was approachine her.

With a flash of holy radiance, Tobatobu gained the attention of the soldier. The skeleton warrior was stong but no match for Toba and the Galka who assisted him. Although, the extra help was not needed, Toba is not one to refuse help. He saluted the Galka who aggreed to let Toba return the little girl to Jeuno.

After Toba, had returned the girl, the Galka approached. He introduced himself as Zaldof and said he had known the girl was in trouble and came to his aid. Zaldof said he had a magic mirror which had helpped him find the little girl and believed that his meeting with Tobatobu was no coincedence.

Tobatobu had made a new ally, Zaldof a mighty Galka.

Botting

Thu ,09/03/2006

CKD recently had a big thread on their website. Tobatobu doesn’t know what to think. Apparently they kicked several of their members. Some of these people are long time friends of Toba. Is it true what Yarr has said. Did Tobatobu’s friends bot? Is it true what they say, that Yarr botted and requested CKD to bot. It would be be the perfect alibi. How come Tobatobu heard about Yarr botting almost two months ago.

What is proof? In a game such as FFXI, proof is something you can’t really come by. Toba feels sorry for the PS2 players, since they have an even larger disadvatage. A picture is worth a thousand words, but on PS2, you are unable to take screenshots of text. On PC, using Fraps and basic windows printscreen, one is able to screenshot anything on-screen, including text.

What can a picture show you? It can show someone admitting something, but is limited on what it can prove people doing. You can’t screenshot someone speedhacking. Perhaps a slideshow of screenshots would work, since that gives the viewer a point of reference. Can you prove someone is teleport-hacking? I take a screenshot, one second your there, the next you are not. Quite difficult to use a picture to prove a person is guilty.

Logs?
Any person with notepad can edit those.

This would leave movies. Movies are a good source of proof. It would take many hours to force scene after scene and make it seem accurate.

Will Tobatobu ever know if his friends are innocent or guilty? Perhaps, but he will need to make his own opinion.

Big Changes for Phoenixdown

Yesterday was a major blow to the system. Balidorn, my faithful officer in the linkshell decided to leave. Tobatobu was quite upset. Toba had been expecting it though and been working diligently with Balidorn to improve the welcome of the new point system. Even when Tobatobu knew about it, it was not {Easy Prey}.

Carpe Diem – Seize the Day.

As soon as word had arrive, Kailix and Tobatobu prepared to calm the linkshell. The linkshell were told that more officers were welcome and Balidorn would be missed.

News was also spoken of new rules to lead the people to paradise. May Altana be with you.

Fishing!

Fri ,03/03/2006

Craft or no craft!

Tobatobu has begun fishing. Yes sad I know. Toba is currently looking into profits, but as a level 3 fisher, Toba can only catch the same fish as everyone else.

This morning, Tobatobu spent the morning in Selbina. What a nice place. Tobatobu saw several little tarutaru complete their Subjob question. Another nearby fisherman broke his rod, Toba lent him a hand and fixed the broken rod. He was very happy.

Tobatobu’s Sabbaticle

Sat ,05/03/2005

Febuary was a very slow month for me.

First off, Toba has yet to get Raise 3! My friends convinced me to wait until the new update came out to hold off.

Well I have an orb, just don’t haven’t quested yet.

I made it to level 72 last week. It has taken a very long time. Toba has had very little time to adventure with his friends. Also, a nasty trip to Dynamis-Sandoria caused Tobatobu to fall behind.

Level 72 has made Tobatobu extremely happy. I have recieved new clothing that makes our battle much easier. Last week, Toba got to play with Pix! yay Pix is a nice BLM who likes to blow things up. He had been seeking for a very long time so we decided to invite him!

Yay, I made it to 70. I suspect in the near future we will be farming BCNM for Raise III. I have my Kindred Seals ready.

Maat has been defeated.

Thu ,20/01/2005

Yesterday I entered the Burning Circle with Maat for the second time. My first time, I was level 66, and in my excitement forgot to use food. Well that didn’t happen this time.

At level 69, I once again challenged Maat to a dual. He accepted. We then met in the Burning Circle at Balga Dais. The old man stood proudly in the center of the ring awaiting my arriving.

I prepared myself, making sure to eat well before the fight. I believe that I may have caught Maat off-guard. Due to some careful planning on my part, I fought him on Lightsday. This helped sway the battle into my favor.

I walked up to Maat in the middle of the circle. I stood Eye to Knee to him. I could remember the blows that I had taken last time. I pulled out my trusty Earth Staff and swung it at him to signal the start of the fight.

During the fight, Maat rarely said anything, but I could see that he was getting tired. About midway he let out a shout at me and tackled me with a Combo, then cast Banish III on me. His efforts were useless. It was at this point that he brought me down to my weakest state during the whole battle. I still had buffer room to get hit twice more. Shellra IV and my Earth Staff had protected me very well.

I easily cured myself for 235, Lightsday and my Healing Ring had kicked in. I followed by another cure with my Regen III going in the background. Maat looked surprised that I responded so quickly. I shot a glance his way, and told him that I’ve practiced by curing suicidal Galka Warriors and Hume Ninjas. He looked frustrated. I knew he didn’t have much more in him.

I was getting low on MP, during the fight I had finished off a Melon Drink and I began tossing down a Yagudo drink. I shot a wink his way letting him know I had more than that left. After a few more blows, Maat accepted defeat.

I put many odds in my favor, I used 2 Bat Earrings, some caster pants and an evasion cape to try help me dodge his blows. I don’t think this helped very much. Maat only missed 3 times during the fight, even when the Bat Earrings giving me +30 to evasion. The Earth Staff was really useful, as was taking advantage of Lightsday. If I were to do it again, this Tarutaru would have used Allure Earrings or a similar earring that protects against light. My back would have had an Empowring Mantle and legs some Noble’s Slacks. Really not too much difference, but a little bit more defense and some more mp. Similarily I would have carried some Paralyze Antidotes just incase my Paralyna didn’t work the first time.

Thank You Maat.

*Ding* Level 69. 6 more to go….

Thats about it.
