Out of the Frying-Pan into the Fire.
Sun ,22/08/2004Today I returned to Kazham. Getting off the airship, the tropical heat rushed against my face. I was greated by the many Mithra that call the island home. I had traveled here many times in the past, but this time I had a job to do. The lord of fire was on this island and I had come to defeat him.
I walked the boardwalks of Kazham for some time. I tried to calm myself over what I knew was going to a difficult fight. I had previous faced Ifrit a number of times. He skill was well above mine. I had been training. I had grown stronger and gained experience. Carbuncle had grown stronger. We both knew what was going to happen today.
I prepared myself in front of the Windurst representatives. I could tell that they understood what I was going threw. A kind taru by the name of Ephemeral graced me with his protective spells. I showed Dodmos, the Mini tuning fork of fire that he had given to me before. He asked if I was ready. I nodded and took a deep breath.
I felt the rush as the warp spell transported me to the Cloister of Flames, deep within Ifrit’s Cauldron. The air here was dense and hard to breath. Brimstone filled the air and my solea were covered with suit. In the middle of the chamber was Ifrit’s Crystal. He was awaiting inside. Still clutching the tuning fork, I struck it on the crystal. The now familiar ringing echoed through the cavern as I was pulled within.
Inside the crystal it was much cooler. The empty space was still warmer than Shiva’s crystal had been, but it was nowhere as hot as the Cauldron.
Who interupts…
Was I dreaming..?
…an eternity?
…lost…
But enough…
Wager your life…
…provide me
…with…amusement.
Are you ready…?
I ran up the winding ramp to Ifrit. Once again I called upon the help of Carbuncle. We were more than ready for this. This fight was no longer for Ifrits amusement. I was here to claim his power.
Ifrit could tell we meant business and started by double punching Carbuncle. I heard a wimper. I distracted the guardian of fire while Carbuncle continued the attack. Ifrit seemed suprised by our determination. We held strong and kept fighting.
My Aquaviel faded and I knew I was in trouble. Carbuncle let loose with the Shining Light. Ifrit cried out in pain. He was angry now. The beast let out a roar and enveloped Carbuncle in flames. Carbuncle disappeared into the void. Ifrit turned towards me as he contined the onslaught. I called for Carbuncle, but all my calls were interuppted by burning punches.
I began to get dizzy as I blocked the blows with my body. I reached into my pouch and drank a potion. A few more punches, and another potion. I called for Carbuncle again. I had been heard and Carbuncle returned with renewed strenth. Another flash of light filled the void. Ifrit cried out in pain.
I joined Carbuncle in the attack on Ifrit. It was nearing the end and we knew we had him for sure. A few more strikes. Ifrit had been defeated.
I now command Ifrit.
I must say, this had been the most difficult fight to date. I now prepare myself for Ramuh. We have yet to cross paths and I do not know what tricks he has.
